Start with the Historic Area, then choose whether the weekend is a Triangle trip, a family theme-park trip, or a little of both.

Current access: Colonial Parkway rehabilitation interrupts the usual scenic loop. Follow posted detours and check the current NPS alert before driving toward Jamestown or Yorktown.

Colonial Williamsburg

Give the Historic Area the best morning of the trip. Its streets, trades, houses, taverns, and museums require several hours and belong outside a theme-park day.

Jamestown

Compare original-site archaeology at Historic Jamestowne with the galleries and reconstructed settings at Jamestown Settlement. They are separate admissions and different experiences.

Yorktown

Begin with Yorktown Battlefield and its tour roads, then move to the York River waterfront for a walk or meal. Check current NPS building access before departure.

Colonial Parkway

The 2026 rehabilitation closes portions of the scenic route and requires detours. Check current NPS alerts rather than assuming a continuous Williamsburg–Jamestown–Yorktown drive.

Busch Gardens Williamsburg

Give the park a full operating day when coasters, shows, animal areas, and younger-child rides are priorities. Check the official calendar and ride status on the day of the visit.

Water Country USA

In summer, make the water park a dedicated half day or full day. Verify its seasonal calendar before buying a multi-park ticket.

Merchants Square and the Art Museums

Merchants Square extends the Historic Area walk into shops and restaurants. The Art Museums of Colonial Williamsburg provide a substantial indoor choice for heat or rain.

William & Mary

The campus meets the Historic Area near the Wren Building. Pair a campus walk with Merchants Square rather than adding another drive.

Freedom Park

Wooded trails and the Williamsburg Botanical Garden offer an outdoor contrast to museum rooms. Check trail and garden conditions before going.

Colonial Williamsburg, Merchants Square, the Art Museums, and William & Mary make a coherent town-centered day. Jamestown and Yorktown require a car and current detours. Busch Gardens takes its own operating day when rides are a priority.
